Disabling the access of your computers

In areas where you are trying to restrict what users can do on the computer, it might be beneficial to disable the ability to click on My Computer and have access to the drives, control panel etc.
To disable this:
1.Click on start and type "RegEdit".
2.Search for 20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D
3.This should bring you to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID section
4.Delete the entire section.
Now when you click on My Computer, nothing will happen.
You might want to export this section to a Registry file before deleting it just in case you want to enable it again. Or you can rename it to 20D0HideMyComputer4FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D. You can also hide all the Desktop Icons, see Change/Add restrictions

Go block a website...

Have you ever wondered on how to block a website without any software..?

Here is a way where you can block a website which you dont want to access..!!

Steps:

1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
2] Find the file named "HOSTS"
3] Open it in notepad
4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 website url ", and that site will no longer be accessable.
5] Done!

example :

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com

- www.orkut.com is now unaccessable


For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip (127.0.0.2) and then the addy like before.

IE:
127.0.0.3 www.yahoo.com
127.0.0.4 www.msn.com
127.0.0.5 www.google.com

This also works with banner sites, just find the host name of the server with the banners and do the same thing with it.

Shutting down your Pc automatically..

Shutting down the system is the important operation in Pc maintenance.Otherwise it will make some harmful changes in the registry and even has the possibility to damage your computer system.This process is very useful for the busy people.It makes the shutdown process in automation.The task is the simple shutdown command set your computer ro close all the running applications with the proper shutdown in the accurated time manner.This process will save the energy and time.Now follow these simple steps.

1.click “start” and goto “Run”.
2. Type “shutdown.exe -s -t yyyy “.
3.Press “ok”.

Here yyyy mean time in second, for example if you want your computer will shutdown automatically after 10 minute then the command will be shutdown -s -t 600.
After the execution of command, a small window will appear to count time of system shutdown.You can also cancel these auto shutdown.To cancle this process simply goto “Run” and type “shutdown.exe –a”.After the execution of this command it will automatically remove the files from your computer.

Hide Your Hard disk..!!

The hard disk is mainly used to store the data which can be a text files or media files. If the user wants to access those data then they have to go to My computer->drives(C:,D:,etc).

But we can also hide the hide disk so as no one can view it increase your privacy. To do so follow these steps :

1. Click start->run.Type “regedit”.Then Select

HKEY_CURRENT_USER-> Software-> Microsoft-> Windows-> CurrentVersion->

Policies->Explorer

2.In the right pane create a new DWORD item and name it "NoDrives" (case sensitive).
3. And modify its value and set it to 3FFFFFF (Hexadecimal).
4. Finally restart your Computer.

So, now when you click on My Computer, no drives will be displayed.

To enable the display of drives in My Computer, simply delete this DWORD item created. And restart your Computer. Now the drives in the My Computer will be displayed.

Creating hidden user account

This tweak allows an account that is normally displayed on the Welcome screen to be hidden from view. To log on using the account it's necessary to use the Log On To Windows dialog box similar to the one in Windows 2000 i.e. press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Account is Hidden / 1 = Enabled]

Exit Registry / Reboot

While the account is hidden on the Welcome screen, note that the account profile will be visible in C:\Documents and Settings or wherever user profiles are stored as well as in Local Users and Groups.

Lock folders without softwares

Hi guys.. This one is really cool.. Try it out..!!

Suppose if you want to lock the folder example "movies" in a drive D: or C: .


Open notepad and type "ren foldername{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30

309D}".

Example:

ren movies movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Now Save this text file as loc.bat in the same drive

Now Open notepad again and type in it
ren folder name.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30

309D} folder name

Example :
ren movies.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} movies

Now save this text file as key.bat in the same drive ...........

Now two batch file are created loc and key....Press loc and the folder will change to control panel and you cannot view its Contents . Press key and u'll get back your original folder ..........ENJOY !!!!

Hey watch stars wars on your PC

You can watch Star Wars on your Windows XP and Windows 2000 ! I'm sure you would enjoy this one.

Just open Run from the Start Menu and then enter the below command,
"telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl" without the quotes of course!

And done! Now you will be able to watch Star Wars.Though it's a text-based movie like presentation, it's worth watching.
